The present volume is a compendium of reports on dialogues organised over the recent past by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD). The volume has been brought out as part of CPD’s programme to enhance the outreach of the dialogue process. The volume covers a wide spectrum of issues and ideas which remain under public debate and were discussed in the course of a number of CPD dialogues, held over the recent past. Since CPD dialogues involve participation by most important groups of stakeholders, including high level policy makers, members of parliament, representatives of grassroot organisations, the private sector and the development partners, as well as academics and experts, these dialogue reports capture a broad range of perspectives and provide rich insights which will be of considerable interest to the readers. The present volume focuses on three broad themes. Part –I of the volume, on Macroeconomic management and policy reforms, deals with the evaluation of the development process in Bangladesh and the strategic options before the policymakers. This part mainly focuses on dialogues which deal with macroeconomic performance, development strategies and the design of gender-equitable macro-economic agendas. Part II on Governance covers dialogues which focus on the state of governance in Bangladesh and deals with such issues as assessment of the state of governance and quality of governance at the central and local levels. Part III of the volume, on Regional perspectives, covers reports on dialogues which focus on the state of development and cooperation in the region and deals with such areas as the prospect of regional cooperation within the SAARC, the South Asia growth quadrangle, state of human development and livelihood practices in South Asia as well as lessons to be learnt by South Asia from the experiences of China and East Asia.
