Emerging Trends in Air and Space Law

This book is comprises of papers presented at the National Conference on Emerging Trends in Air and Space Law, held on October 8 and 9, 2005 at NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad. It makes an attempt to deal with the emerging Air Law and Space Law issues. Air and space technology has always fascinated the mankind through sheer innovative ideas. In the aviation sector, liberalization, globalization, deregulation and re-regulation have become worldwide phenomena. India is no exception to these global developments. Liberalization effectively started in India in the late 1980s. Now we have the open skies policy in place due to a strong consumer demand and constraints on the rapid expansion of national carriers. India's new economic policies in the early 1990s have triggered far-reaching fiscal, trade, industrial and economic reforms, aimed at accelerating growth, employment, productivity and technical innovations. Safety and security assurances are also absolutely necessary  if international tourism and the airline industry are to thrive. Environment is also an emerging issue to be tackled. This book covers all such issues by eminent authors. Coming to Space Law, the international environment for space activity has undergone a sea change in the past two decades or so. The process of commercialization and privatization have followed and altered the very course of space activities. Modern space programme requires establishing close working arrangements between government and the private sector which facilitate satellite communications, navigation and position location, remote sensing, data processing, support services and infrastructure etc. Space tourism, intellectual property rights are other emerging issues. The specialists and the academics have combined to provide a concrete vision in this book for a comprehensive legislative and policy framework in India and the world at large. The book should be of much interest to the academic world and to airlines and aerospace industry, as also to the travelling public.
