Vikram Seth is decidedly a writer among writers who writes without bothering about the diasporic dislocations or the search for roots. Already a recipient of Padmashree Award: any contention regarding his acceptability does not make relevance. Through his writings, he has created a world-in-itself which he can co-habit and explore. Each of his works, irrespective of the genre and location is special and valuable to English canon. The inspiration behind the title of the book ‘Vikram Seth, A Suitable Writer,’ writing career (while pursuing Ph.D in Economics he became a writer of distinction) that principally ignited the prejudices of critics; (b) his penchant for settings other than Indian made some reject his Indianness; (c) and the third and final being the contention that Seth’s popularity owes to the hype created by media. The books will benefit those pursuing scholarly studies on Indo-Anglian Literature as it has been updated with recent critical studies on Seth’s works, including Two Lives.
