Reasoning describes the mental recognition of cause and effect relationship. It is the prediction of an event from an observed or inference of a cause from an observed event. It combines past experience to solve a problem. It is a highly purposeful controlled selective thinking. It has a definite purpose or goal. It is an implicit act that involves problem solving behaviour. It consists of mental exploration instead of motor exploration as it involves mental exploration of the reason or cause of an event or happening. This study has been taken up knowing the very importance of reasoning ability in the life and career of students. The school students are having low reasoning ability. The boys, private school students, urban students, English medium students and central syllabus students are possessing significantly more reasoning ability that their counter parts. This study will be of great use to the teachers and administrators to take care of the components concerned to the reasoning ability of school students.
