Ever since the dawn of human civilization women have always actively participated in the evolutionary process of society and along with their other halves they have witnessed the rise and fall of civilizations. No doubt, the institution of family which is very nucleus of human society cannot be conceived without women. The status of women has been determined by the interplay of various political and socioeconomic factors. In India, though in the past, women have been deprived of the same status and privileges as that of men, but today the position has been drastically changed. There is hardly any field where women have not excelled in proficiency. The present effort entitled Indian women–from tradition to modernity includes enormous printed literature relating to the status of women from ancient to modern times. It is hoped that the work will be well received in various academic and social circles.
