Rural Sociology

The history, scope, methodology and subject-matter of Rural sociology, occupies a position of distinction in the history of entire sociological literature. Rural sociology is a branch of sociology, which is deeply concerned with the studies of various phenomena, such as; stratification, religion, social problems or other socio-economic and political aspects of the rural, peasant or village society. The rural society is characterised by agriculture, animal husbandry and allied activities, joint family, simplicity, strong collective conscience, pre-dominance of religion and other features. A number of eminent social thinkers and sociologists have contributed and enriched the studies concerned with the rural social system. As far as the scope of rural sociology in India is concerned, it focuses on the three fourth of the total population of the country. This work, Rural Sociology is supposed to be a comprehensive book on the subject.
