There has been a global tourism boom in recent times. Presently, International tourism has been performing better than world trade. The fame that this industry has achieved, is due to the combined efforts of several players who constitute its very edifice, viz., the constituent primary and secondary enterprise that include accommodation, transport, travel facilitators, banking, food and beverages, entertainment sector etc. and tourism education institutes, among others, Individual efforts of the policy makers, entrepreneurs; tourism educators and budding researchers and professionals too are duly credited for shaping the promising prospects of this industry. While the component industry sectors deliver the actual product and services, it is the researchers and academicians who provide the innovative ideas that stimulate the creativity of the developers. Present book has been divided into three sections. First section ‘new Directions in Tourism’ deals with the latest development in tourism and the strategic implications to the industry. This section discusses the nature of International Tourism and the current scenario of tourism industry. Second section ‘Alternative Tourism’ focuses on the prevailing alternative tourism practices. This section also focuses on the role of alternative tourism forms in the promotion of tourism. Various alternative tourism forms like Film tourism, medical and health tourism, and green Tourism etc. have been discussed in this section. The third and last section of this book is on ‘Tourism marketing and Consumer behaviour’. The comprehensive book has been brought out to provide and understanding of diverse individual viewpoints on several areas of tourism which will be of interest to the members of industry and the academia, and in essence, contribute to the filed of tourism as a whole.

Dr. Prashant Kumar Gautam is a lecturer in the Institute of Vocational Studies, Master of Tourism Administration, H.P. University, Shimla. He is involved in various tourism research activites and management of events. His area of specialization is Tourism and the Environment. He is the Managing Editor of Tourism Development Journal. He is the Managing Editor of Tourism Development Journal. He is also involved in conducting various courses for the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of Himachal Pradesh.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S.P. Bansal
Dr. S.P. Bansal is an Associate Professor and Chairman of the Institute of Vocational Studies, Master of Tourism Administration, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He specializes in the field of tourism. He has to his credit about 50 published research papers and seven books, out of which thee books are on tourism. He has completed six major research projects on tourism mainly on thematic areas like Sustainable tourism development, Ecotouirism, and the Impact evaluation of tourism development. He is the Chief Editor of Tourism Development Journal, an international tourism research journal. He has guide eight scholars at Doctorate level. He has represented India and Himachal University in many international tourism gatherings/ conventions/seminars at France, UK, USA and Switzerland. He is a member of Tourism, Govt. of India; NCERT, etc. He also holds position of Secretary, All India Tourism Teacher’s Association (AITTA). Presently he is teaching MTA and MBA students and devoting himself to a continuing I n-depth analysis of Indian tourism Industry.
