This book is primarily to provide sound information to young adult women, their friends, spouses, employers, and counselors. It is presented in narrative form, rather than a scientific format, to encourage nonscientists to use the results in their daily life choices. That was when most day care centres took children and the years when a large number of women returned to employment if they were going to be employed mothers. Today, we wished we had asked about returning to work after a shorter period, but we did the best we could to understand 199s reality by asking more detailed questions in the follow up questionnaire. In return, I wanted to convey their thoughts and feelings as accurately as possible without betraying the confidentially of the respondents. As a result, pseudonyms have been used throughout, and some quotes have been edited or combined with another response to project a respondent’s privacy, or combined with the original question to provide an intelligible sentence.
