This book has its beginning in 1985 and later on revised in 1990. Since then a wealth of literature has been accumulated on various aspects of tropical and subtropical fruit crops. The present day fruit cultivation has become a highly sophisticated enterprise. In the process of a comprehensive literature survey it was felt impossible to compile the research results on tropical and subtropical fruits in one volume. The third revised edition of this book is, therefore, published in two volumes. The first volume consists of fruits like mango, citrus, banana, grape, pineapple, papaya, litchi, guava and avocado in about 700 pages. Around 29 fruit crops viz. persimmon, macademia, longan, sapota, ber, pomegranate, jackfruit, fig, passion fruit, loquat, rambutan, bael, jamun, aonla, durian, phalsa, mangosteen, carambola, tamarind, karonda, wood apple, lasoda, mulberry, kair, tamarillo, pilu olive, custard apple, burbados cherry, etc. have been described in the second volume in about 600 pages. This book (in 2 volumes) is an extremely comprehensive and valuable text providing a complete overview of the principles and practices of tropical and subtropical fruit culture, covering world literature on the subject. Though the subject is very vast, this book presents the concepts in a condensed, informative and lucid manner. It will be of immense help to the students and teachers of horticulture, plant science and plant physiology. Any one interested in fruit cultivation will also find this book quite informative.
