Growth, Distribution and Public Policy is a collection of papers written by the author at different points of time since the 1990s on different aspects of agricultural growth, intersectoral terms of trade, poverty and human development, living conditions, poverty alleviation schemes and the functioning the Panchayats in West Bengal under the globalised regime. Distributed in three sections, the fourteen chapters of this book address important issues of agricultural growth in the state of West Bengal, the importance of modern inputs, as well as credit flows to help the surge in agricultural productivity in the state since the early 1980s and examine the behaviour or intersectoral terms of trade in influencing growth in agricultural and industrial sectors in the state, the nature of poverty over time as well other related deprivations, and their variations across districts and over time, and public policies to address them. These papers indicate the importance of growth, distributive justice and public policies in the context of the regional economy of West Bengal, and its development, which are important to students, researchers and policy-makers on the subject.
