Indian Financial System has witnessed a significant transformation in recent years with number of new technologies, systems, products/services. Now economy has become global village with the new entrants resulted in a paradigm shift in the ways of banking in India. In this context, Indian banking system is facing severe competition from inside and outside mainly from foreign entities and non-banking financial companies. There is less business around and stiffer competition as banks fight to keep market share. There are number of challenges the banks are facing to survive and stand in the national as well as international markets. The globalization is a major cause for these challenges at the same time it provides number of opportunities for the banks to do their business in new ways and make them competitive in the global market. Indian Banking Industry in 2020, is a relevant and current issue to think about it. There is a need to develop some appropriate models, strategies to make Indian banks competitive in the global market as we can’t lag behind the other countries and we have to transform the Indian banking system from being a largely domestic one to a truly international one. There is a dire need to discuss the present position of Indian banks in the global era and then make attempt to improve it to the international standards.
