Globalisation as a concept is very widely in circulation today. Globalisation has now touched almost every sphere of our life. It has been the central concern of economists and business community for quite some time as an offshoot of economic liberalisation and opening up of the market. But of late, other disciplines of social sciences and humanities such as political science, sociology, social anthropology began to probe into the queries as to how the globalisation process affects the culture of people, their life style, habits, hobbies, etc…. Cultural globalisation has progressed in two directions: first, it has erased the cultural territory bindings. Cultural objects like food, music, cloths, dance, language, pronunciation etc. are fast undergoing wild and rapid change as much as we have MTV culture dominating our youth today. The second direction in which globalisation has influenced culture is also know as "Cultural Imperialism’ — the domination of one culture trampling over the rest of the cultures of the world. Normally globalisation should have been a two-way flow of culture from one pat of the world to another. But this is not happening. The flow has been in one direction only dominating, submerging the riparian culture by the process known as "Cultural Homogenisation". Now there is tendency for imposition of Western or American Culture over the rest of the world. This book is divided into (i) origins and nature of globalisation; (ii) different dimensions of globalisation; (iii) cultural globalisation; and role impact of print and electronic media. It will be useful for the policy-makers, teachers and students.
