Asia possesses the largest share of mineral resources in the world, much of which remains untapped. The mineral industry has to gear up and accelerate its pace to meet the increased demand of raw materials for the development of key industries in the Asian economy. The mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI) which is the oldest Institute of its kind in Asia is hosting the second Asian Mining Congress on the theme Mineral Resources in Asian Countries : Innovative Solutions for Development and Expansion to focus on the prospects of Mineral Development in Asia. The Proceedings of the Congress are compiled in two volumes covering 70 Technical Papers presented by eminent experts on different facets of development of technology for mining, mineral processing, environmental and social issues, health and safety issues, business and investment opportunities and other topical subjects presented in the Congress. Apart from contributions by eminent experts from Indian Mineral Industry, there are useful contributions from other Asian countries such as China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Thailand etc. The proceeding volume is enriched by valuable contributions by experts from Australia, Germany, U.K., USA etc.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR L K Bose
L. K. Bose, a graduate in Mining Engineering from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, (1960) worked for 13 years in NCDC Ltd. as Manager/Project Officer. He was Chief of Planning in ECL (1978 to 1980) and Chief Mining Engineer in CMPDI 1981 to 1986. He was responsible for fourmulation of Master Plan for Raniganj Coalfield and planning of major opencast projects of ECL. Worked as Chief General Manager (Projects) in ECL up to 1990. He was Executive Director in Coal India Head Quarters and retired in 1996. He is Chairman of the MGMI Techinical Committee of Asian Mining Congress.
