ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alka Shiva
Ms. Alka Shiva holder of Master's degree in Sociology (1982), obtained Diploma in Social Forestry from Forest Research Institute and Colleges, Dehra Dun in 1984. While serving in COMFORPTS she was sponsored by the Ford Foundation for a course on "Marketing of Non-Timber Tree and Forest Products" from Regional Community Forestry Training Centre (RECOFTC), Kasetsart University, Bangkok (Thailand) in 1994. She worked at Centre of Minor Forest Products (COMFORPTS) for Rural Development and Environmental Conservation, Dehra Dun since 1992 as Social Forestry Officer and as President and Managing Director since 1998. She is the Contact Person of IUFRO's NWFP Database Network since 1998. She has been carrying out Community Development Works at COMFORPTS. Ms. Shiva is now contributing a series on Methods of Sustainable Harvesting and Value Addition for Economic Uplift and Biodiversity Conservation" in MFP News being published since 1990 of which she is the Managing Editor. She is an active member of South and East Asian Countries NTFP Network (SEANN). She has published 35 scientific papers and 2 books viz., "Medicinal Plants : First Aid Remedies-Their Sources and Method of Uses" and "Annotated Bibliography of Non-Timber Forest Products related Articles" compiled from the Indian Forester from 1875 to 1999.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Alok Lehri
Dr. Alok Lehri is Head, Quality Assurance Division and Dy. Director in the Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre, Govt. of India Autonomous Body, Kannauj. Dr. Lehri is Doctorate in Chemistry and has vast experience in Essential Oils, Aroma-chemicals, Indian Attars, Fragrances, Flavours and Minor oil seeds like Neem, Mahua and Karanja. Number of papers in international/national conferences and journals are to his credit. Books named "Neem Ek Jankari" and "Collection, Processing and Commercial Utilization of Neem" has been authored by him. He is also an laboratory Assessor of NABL and has assessed a number of national laboratories. He has conducted number of training programmes for essential oils and perfumery industry. He is also a member of Essential Oil Committee of BIS. Dr. Lehri has long association with OTAI, EOAI & FAFAI.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR M.P. Shiva
Dr. M.P. Shiva (Born 1932) holding Master degree in Botany from Lucknow University (1952) obtained Doctorate in Forest Utilization (Garhwal University) in 1982. He acquired a long experience of about 30 years as a scientist in Government of India at NWFP Division, Forest Research Institute, Dehra Dun. He is the Advisor and Founder President, Centre of Minor Forest Products (COMFORPTS) for Rural Development and Environmental Conservation, Dehra Dun. His dedication in the field of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) brought him several awards and International recognition. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Leadership Award (ABI-Title, 1998), USA, accolade Man of the Year, 1998 and Member Research Board of Advisors of ABI and also chosen for International Who's Who of Intellectuals of IBC, England (1999). He has over 260 publications including 42 books. Dr. Shiva has been the Founder Chairman of South and East Asian Countries NTFP Network (SEANN). He has worked as FAO/UN consultant/expert. He had been Deputy coordinator and NWFP Research Group Leader of IUFRO. He was invited in 21" IUFRO World Congress, held at Malaysia (2000) and chaired four sessions. Being involved in Ford Foundation funded Project since 1992, he fulfilled Project Assignments of the FAO, ODA and other agencies.
