Satyajit Ray at Work: Bijoya Ray Remembers

As part of pocket art series, this photo album is easy on the eye and at the same time provides a delightfully intelligent and pithy – less than 3,000 words – introduction to a well-loved subject, written by his wife Bijoya Ray.  Ray’s intense concentration was amazing. He also had no ego problems. He welcomed people from all walks of life with open arms. I would see him with a roomful of people, talking and laughing while he sat on his chair with his famous Red Notebook open and resting on his knees. He would go on talking, but his hand never stopped writing! I asked him about it once and he said that he had learned the trick of doing two or three things at the same time long ago – it never bothered him!
