ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mahesh Kumar Sharan

Dr. Mahesh Kumar Sharan, M.A. (A.I. & A.S.), M.A. (Hist.), Ph.D., D.Litt., D.R.S. (b. 1944) topped the list of successful candidates of M.A. examination in Ancient Indian and Asian Studies of Magadh University, Bodh Gaya held in the year 1965. He was appointed Lecturer in the Post-Graduate Department of Ancient Indian and Asian Studies, Magadh University in January 1966. He secured his secnd M.A. degree in History in 1969. In the year 1969 also he was awarded Ph.D. degree. In 1973 he secured D.Litt. degree. Since 1974 he is the Head of the P.D. Department of Ancient Indian and Asian Studies, Gaya College Gaya. In 1980 he was promoted to the Post of Reader and to the post of University Professor in the year 1985. He served the College till his retirement on 30.6.2004. Dr. Sharan was invited by the Mahachulalongkom Buddhist University, Bangkok (Thailand) as Guest Fellow and delivered a series of lectures on various aspects of Indian history and civilisation. His research works include the undermentioned valuable books: Tribal Coins-A Study, Studies in Sanskrit Inscriptions of Ancient Cambodia, Bhagvadgita and Hindu Sociology, Court Procedure in ancient India, Prachina Bharata, Prachina Bharata (Dvitiya Khanda), Select Cambodian Inscriptions, Political History of Ancient Cambodia, Kambujadesh ka Rajanitik aur Sanskritik Itihasa, Shri Kayastha Kula Darpana, Thailand ki Sanskritik Paramparayen. Under the supervision of Dr. Sharan seventy Research Scholars have been awarded Ph.D. degrees and three scholars secured D. Litt. degrees. Credit of publication of seventy-seven Research articles in various journals of both Indian and abroad also goes to Dr. Sharan's mighty pen.
