Wheat, the second cereal crop, is very important in India, because it is the staple food of most of the people of Northern, Western and Central India, where winter is long or medium in duration. Now, with the arrival of dwarf wheat, it is grown in Eastern parts of India also, where winter duration is short. Though huge amount of research works, on different aspects, are being done in different parts of the country, but management oriented book on wheat, is rare. Therefore, on management view points, the book entitled, ‘Wheat Crop Management’ has been written in 17 chapters covering new strategies for wheat production improvements. Besides this, 138 tables and 22 figures, have been added to it. This book will be useful to students of Agronomy of all the agricultural colleges/universities. This book will also be useful for students, research institutes run by ICAR, students of the agricultural training centres for references.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR N R Das

Prof. N.R. Das, Ex-Professor of Agronomy of Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV)< West (India), was born on February 1, 1939 at Vikrampur of Dhaka (now in Bangladesh). He obtained his B.Sc. (Ag.) and Ph.D. (Agronomy) degrees from Kalyani University, West Bengal. He was trained on Wheat (D.W.P), in the International Wheat and maize Improvement Centre (CIMMYT) in mexico. During his 35 years in teaching, research and extension activities of both the Universities, he has contributed a lot. He has published more than 292 research papers, besides the extension popular articles (69) and research reports (45). He has conducted successfully many ICAR research projects. He also helped in framing the degree and post graduate degree courses of the Vishwavidyalaya. He received different honours/awards from the National and international societies/organizations. Recently he has been honoured with the ‘Fellow’ by the International biographical research Foundation.
