This second edition of a training manual tries to explore the various aspects of laws related to women and the rights provided to women. It also examines the various forms and modes of violation that go on unabated. This manual focuses upon the numerous disadvantageous positions that women are subjected to. Though women constitute half of the population, they have for ages been victims of violence, exploitation and discrimination. The legal provisions made available for women have to some extent provided protection of women’s rights. But since the rights of women are systemic in nature, only legal provisions do not suffice. Hence, women all over the world have launched powerful women’s movements to reverse centuries of discrimination and injustices. This manual is an effort to highlight them. This manual is preliminary in nature. It is hope that this effort would generate meaningful discussion and provide definite direction for change in the social order that is engaged in the exploitation and discrimination of women.
