Second-generation economic reforms: issues and initiatives

The present volume attempts to place in perspective the initial reforms and the design and projections of the second-generation reforms, almost two decades later, in a continuing effort of all planners, policy-makers and economists to strengthen the economy and bring it on par with the developed systems in terms of trade balance, competitiveness, and prevalent trends. Removal of trade barriers, opening up of currency, extensive export incentives and import liberalisation in terms of goods and services, are among the several crucial steps taken in the "great leap forward" of the Indian economic effort.
