For more than half a century, food processing has been driving growth in many developed countries. Today, in developed countries like the EU, the US, Brazil and Canada, the agri-food system has evolved into a highly complex, integrated and internationally competitive supply chain. This book introduces the reader to the potential of the food processing industry by highlighting the vital economic role it has played in a few developed countries. It highlights the potential of the food processing industry and bares some challenges that developing countries like India and China face in this regard despite having huge potential in terms of an agricultural base, labor reserves or the ability to harness requisite technology for food processing. It includes Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) requirements for agricultural and food products exports.
