The edited volume entitled Sources of the History of Arunachal Pradesh takes into account literary, archaeological as well as oral sources for reconstructing the history and culture of the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. Arunachalees relation with the Ahoms as well as the British are also discussed on the basis of Buranjis and British archival documents. It also provides various sources for understanding Theravada as well as Mahayana Buddhism prevalent in western and northern and eastern part of the state. This book is the first of its kind to study the existing source materials and has thrown light on many unknown sources for the study of history, culture, religion, society and polity of the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR S. Dutta
Born in Madarkhat area of Dibrugarh, Prof, Dutta is one of the pioneers of higher education in Arunachal. A teacher and researcher of standing, he has five books and more than fifty research papers to his credit. He is member of several professional and academic bodies in the country like the five-member standing committee of the Central Advisory Board of Archaeology, Archaeological survey of India, New Delhi; Advisory Board of Indian Council of Historical Research, Regional Centre, Guwahati; advisory board of Sri Sri Aniruddhadeva Chair of Dibrugarh University; Institute of Archaeology and Training, Eastern India, West Bengal. A former Dean of Social Sciences, Arunachal University, Prof. Dutta is currently Professor and Head of the Department of History, Arunachal University, Itanagar.
