Nearly 11 million under-fives are dying every year in this world. Most of these deaths are from preventable and treatable diseases. These children don’t die from birth defects or incurable diseases–they die from infections, diarrhoea, pneumonia, malaria, measles and other causes that are almost unheard of in our own country. Under-nutrition is a key factor in up to half of all child deaths. Health experts estimate that at least six million child lives a year could be saved by ensuring access to low-cost, high-impact interventions. It’s important that children have access to all these interventions, not just one or two. Many countries are now devoted to the child survival interventions as a way of reducing the child mortality. The present book discusses the current child survival situation, includes challenges and feasible solutions. It outlines a number of child survival interventions which have been scientifically proven to reduce mortality. It also describes the role of social work interventions in promoting and implementing child survival activities worldwide.
