The growth of the electronics industry has been phenomenal worldwide since the 1970s and its future in India seems to be brighter in China and India where an explosive growth in this industry. One reason for this phenomenal growth is that the prices keep dropping and new developments keep taking place. Electronics companies spend a lot of resources on R&D to develop new products, which leaves them with little time for manufacturing. This gave birth to the electronic manufacturing services industry or contract manufacturers. Against this background, this book attempts to explore the various aspects of electronic industry. The articles in the book cover the concepts of the EMS industry, individual country experiences including India and the players. The growth of the original design manufacturer (ODM), a variant of the EMS industry, is also discussed along with how the EMS industry moved from the US or to Western Europe and then to Eastern Europe and finally to China.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR T.P. Rajmanohar

T.P. Rajmanohar is a Mechanical Engineer and also an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. Presently he is a faculty member at Icfai Business School Research Center, Chennai. He has around 33 years of industrial experience in various disciplines which include marketing, planning, purchasing and stores functions and also in e-Business. Before joining Icfai, he was in-charge of Materials Management with a medium sized gasket company in Chennai as General Manager.
