Rural livelihoods are concepts frequently seen in the development discourse. Articles in this issue mirror the complexities and dynamics of rural livelihood and contemporary thoughts on a way forward. History shows there are no quick fixes to rural poverty reduction. Food security is thus concerned not only with availability of foodgrains in adequate amounts, but also with the ability of people to access food in tune with their needs and tastes.
