The genus Strombomonas Deflandre is well known genus for a group of interesting and widely distributed Euglenoid Flagellata. The genus was proposed firstly by Deflandre (1930) and many taxa, 33 species and 28 varieties, were combined with this genus for the first time from the genus Trachelomonas. Since then, more taxa were successively described by the many authors from various regions in the world.
