The volume presents the proceedings of the 17th Convention of Indian Geological Congress and International Conference on New Paradigms of Exploration and Sustainable Mineral Development: Vision 2050. It offers the papers presented by experts in the plenary and technical sessions of the convention. The papers deal with broadly exploration geology, petroleum geology, geomathematics, sedimentology and palaeontology, mineral development policy of India, information technology applications in the context of mineral resources use and management, and environmental aspects. Taking up specific types of mineral resources for detailed study including coal, shale gas and gas hydrate, they study geophysical techniques and rehabilitation and resettlement policy for sustainable societal development of mining areas. Focusing on current activities in India, they also probe opportunities for collaborative research, such as between academia and industry, in conventional and unconventional energy resources referring to education and training, energy challenges and conservation awareness.
