A Critical Handbook of English Fiction

When a student of English literature is asked to study fiction he is supposed to encompass from the fiction writings of earlier period to the much evolved form and diction of twentieth century replete with style experiments. The body of English fiction has grown and enriched itself by the contribution of English writer from all continents of the world, each unique in his approach, content and style. In this book attempt has been made to trace the gradual progress of English Prose Fiction from the early romance to the novel of the present day, in such connection with the social characteristics of the epochs to which these works respectively belong, as may conduce to a better comprehension of their nature and significance.
