This is a photographic biography of His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa, in which he shares his feelings and thoughts about his life, his views and his activities.
His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa says in the preface of the book: "Time never changes. Even if the world keeps changing its external presentation, it is still samsara. Beings are still trapped in the wheel of existence, dancing with greed, hatred and delusion. The same mind travels from one body to the next. Sometimes we are animals, sometimes we are humans, and sometimes we are gods. Our karma leads us on our journey, sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet. Life is just a dream. A hero is one who awakens from this dream." The book is in fact a rare collection of very old photographs of His Holiness the Twelfth Gyalwang Drukpa, and some of them were taken from his very own personal album, never before shown to the public. In the book, His Holiness talks about his own birth with great sense humor, he says: "I was told that it was raining so heavily that the whole Tso Pema became flooded. I remember quite clearly that I sort of begged the local deities not to react, I wanted to come to this world in a low profiled manner, but they never listened. They did their own way." He also shares in the book: "In fact, my parents had tried their best to hide me for a couple of years. They were running away from many head lamas and monasteries wanting to recognize me as one of their reincarnate tulkus. My father was already very well-known and respected as a great Dzogchen master and a terton (Tib. a tantric treasure revealer), and of course, my mother was also from a much respected spiritual family. In addition, my birth was announced publicly during the festival of Guru Padmasambhava at Tso Pema. All this made people feel that I might be a very important master, although truly, I am nobody."His Holiness himself took personal interest in the entire production process, together with DPPL's volunteer at its Design studio, Joel Basham, who had only joined the team in May 2007. So in a way, this book is full of his love and blessing.
