The material owes its existence to many discussions which he had with his teachers especially Professor Bansi Lal Chakoo, Professor Sumanyu Satpathy, Professor A.H. Tak, Professor Mohammad Aslam, Dr. Krishnan Unni P. and Dr. Maroof Ahmad Shah.
This book is primarily based on applied research. The author searched for explanations months together. At times, he would feel frustrated. In fact, he now understands the situation quite to his own satisfaction. His mentor and teacher, Professor A.H. Tak would spend hours with him in the library searching and suggesting him the sources and references. His distinctive research abilities helped him a lot in shaping this book.
R.K. Narayan, Raja Rao and Mulk Raj and are real fathers of Indian English novel. They opened a new chapter in Indian English fiction. Applying Lacanian theory to Narayan’s fiction was truly a great challenge for the author. He made use of the available material and read it very seriously number of times. This became the basis of his book.
The whole book is an outcome of the author’s original thought based on the comparative analysis – Lacan and Narayan. It is his faith that if this book contributes in any small way to the future scholars and teachers, it will have served its purpose.
