During the course of identification in the Herbarium of the Royal Botanic Garden, Sibpur, considerable difficulty was experienced in correlating certain specimens of Glycosmis. That came from Assam and other places, with any of the known species of the genus. A cursory examination of the materials of the genus at Sibpur and of the literature relating to the genus and its species only confirmed the suspicion that the genus was in urgent need of a more critical study than what has been done hitherto. Materials of the genus from other herbaria, namely, Dehra Dun and Shillong, were obtained on loan and with vast collections in the Sibpur herbarium, the work of revising the genus was started in the end of the year 1933. The work was completed in February 1934, but to circumstances beyond my control, the monograph could not be published till now.
