Industries occupy a unique place in a nation’s economy. They are the key source where goods are manufactured for the satisfaction of human wants. They provide employment and the social life of the people is to a large extent influenced by industries. A sociological study of an Oil Industry in Assam (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited) is an outcome of a doctoral research aimed to find out the social structure of ONGC in Assam, the social background of the employees of ONGC and the people residing in the surrounding areas and the worker-management relationship in ONGC.
