The Tirupur city in the Tamil Nadu state of India has a heavy concentration of apparel industry, with over 2500 functional units. Present work is an empirical attempt to examine the HRM practices in the context of apparel operations in Tirupur. Based on first hand information collected from various stakeholders from a sample of 250 units, the study examines the structure and dimensions of HRM practices in the apparel industry and also tries to establish a correlation between HRM practices and various variables including the turnover of the organisation and the overall welfare of the employees. Findings of the study have been used to suggest measures for a better and more effective implementation of HRM practices in the apparel industry.
