The Abhidharmakosa is one of the most important and influential Psycho-metaphysical literatures of Buddhisum which was composed by the well-known early Buddhologist Vadubandhu (4th/5th century CE.). Vasubandhu was born into a Brahim family of ancient Indian province of Gandhara (Peshawar of modern Pakistan), He became a Buddhist Bhikku in Sarvastivada School of Buddhism. He studied Vaibhasika Abhidharma in Kashmir and at the conclusion of his studies, Vasubandhu composed his most famous treaties Abhidharmakosa. He later in life converted to Mahayana Buddhism due to the influence from his half-brother Asanga, also another influential Buddhist author. Vasubandhu also compose several other treatises.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Lokananda C. Bhikkhu
Lokananda C. Bhikkhu read Buddhism, and Hindi languages at the University of Sri Lanka-Kelaniya. Migrated to the States, then he attended University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), California State University (CSULB), San Jose State University and University of the West, Rosemead California; and received degrees of BA, MA, MLIS, PhD and a Diploma in Buddhist studies. He studied Pali, Sanskrit, Bengali, Japanese, German and French languages. He served in the public and academic Libraries for last twenty years. He travelled extensively all over the Asia, Europe and America attending numerous seminars, workshops, conferences. Currently, he is the President & chief incumbent of the Bangla-America Buddhist Fellowship (Sambodhi Vihara) in Long Beach, California.
