There are so many good dictionaries in the market on all available subjects. Yet in course of interactions with the contemporary students and the alumni of the teacher education department, a strong need was felt towards a dictionary of science and home science terms for translating information into Hindi-be it for the Hindi speaking children at school level or the teacher education institutions or for my students who were working at grassroot levels in various community based organizations. A large percentage of Home Science graduates, postgraduates and persons from allied fields are involved in community-based work at different levels of different organizations, were in many of these professionals who have had their education in English medium at school and college level face problems in translating information to the community or else where. A large number of Home Science graduates and post graduates in the teaching profession at school level, college level and in teacher education institutions also are in need of an handy dictionary of terms related to Home Science and allied fields. This is an attempt to satisfy such a need in the form of a English to Hindi dictionary of science and home science terms.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Renu Malviya

Dr. Renu Malviya is a Reader in the Department of Education, Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi. she has a Masters in child Development from Lady Irwin College, New Delhi. She has another masters in Education. Her Ph.D. work on Psychosocial profile of the child and family school interactions is from jawaharlal Nehru University. She has been linked with teacher education for over two decades. Some of her projects involved training persons for the integrated Child Development Scheme personals such as aganwadi workers, supervisors and Child Development Project Officers. She has been involved with area development programmes of adult literacy, extension work in Home Science and Drug abuse prevention programme. She is also involved with NGO's who work at the grassroot level. Her expertises are in the area of Methodology of teaching, Specific learning disabilities in the regular classroom, educational psychology and Home Science Education. She has published articles on various subjects in both national and international journals and has also developed course modules related to education.
