Relying on the Puranas, the Vedic literature, classical Sanskrit literature, and Buddhist and Jaina literature, the volume presents an account of the ancient dynasties of India. It traces back all royal genealogies of ancient India to Manu Vaivasvata. It deals with the dynasties associated with Pramshavas and Turvasas, the Bharatas of different lines, Ila, Puru, Kuru, Anga, the Yadus, the Druhyus, the Shakas and the Aikshvakus. Interestingly, the accounts are packed with legends and stories of kings, relations between kings, and epic names and places. They throw light on political and social conditions at different times. They throughout examine ambiguities and differing opinions that exist with respect to stories and dynasties.
