The present book is a collection of essays, research papers and articles pertaining to the various aspects of history of visual art of Punjab right from the ancient period till the close of the nineteenth century. These were published in the journals of high repute in India and abroad. Some of these were of course presented in the History Conferences in patiala, Amritsar and other places. Chief merit of these works is that they reflect aesthetic ethos of the valiant people of Punjab through their artistic creations which are either lost, or if preserved, are enshrining the foreign museums and libraries. These will go a long way to prove about the presence of natural proclavity for the people of Punjab. What in fact is desired is the passionate eye to detect with pulsating heart of the people of Punjab who shaped the beautiful environment of this land of five rivers. Another unique feature of these essays is that they transcend the political barriers of the dynastic rulers of different periods. Main emphasis has been laid on the manifestations of visual arts in their manifold and kaleidoscopic forms created in the womb of Punjab. This might inspire the cultural historians to know more about these in the near future. Curiosity thus aroused shall lead to the emergence and affluence to the ‘Renaissance’ of already existing (though lost in hoary past) civilization of the creative people of Punjab.
