The essays deal with issues like pan-Asianism, reform movements across Asia, routes and roads, infrastructural development and technological advancement, leadership and legitimacy, governance and institutions and the rise of China. They examine the performance of Asia in various spheres and contrast the Asian experience: economic growth and emergence of India and China as economic giants on the one hand and struggling economies, poor infrastructure, unequal resource distribution, violence and intolerance on the other hand. The contributors take up globalisation’s impact on Asia, Afghanistan’s significance in the present era, the New Silk Road and connecting India to it, and the Middle East in the new century. With extensive notes , they deal with issues and programmes in countries such as development projects with reference to Ninja miners in Zaamar, Mongolia, development and green growth in Vietnam and evolution of education in Singapore.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Arpita Basu Roy
Arpita Basu Roy is a Project Fellow at the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institue of Asian Studies, Kolkata. She has been engaged in active research on various issues relating to Afghanistan and has contributed several scholarly research papers and articles on the subject. She has represented the Institute at various international and national seminars and conferences held in India and abroad.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Priya Singh
Priya Singh is a Project Fellow in the Maulana Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata. She has worked on issues relating to teh problems of security in West Asia with special reference to the foreign policy and leadership aspects of Israel. Some of her articles have been published in the Institute's journal, Asia Annual.

Dr. Suchandana Chatterjee, Ph.D. in History from Calcutta University, specializes in the local histories of Central Asia.
