Importance of rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan is well known. The present work is an attempt to add new chapter in it. This place was hidden in contemporary historical texts and very first time is being tried to bring out in limelight. This work is based of interpretation of textual information as well as use of archaeological material to avoid subjectivity and twists to fill the gaps in the texts. He has studied more than eighty historical monuments in and around Bayana. This book is divided into six chapters i.e. Environs of the Bayana Tract, Historical Outline, Economy of the Bayana, Archaeological monuments in and around Bayana, Growth of Bayana Township and Conclusion and Appendices. The work contains detailed description monuments, protected by Archaeological Survey of India, with their photographs and ground plans. Dr. W.H. Siddiqui, Ex-Director Archaeological Survey of India, commented “this work is of national importance†because after General A. Cunnighum very first time all monuments are studied by an individual.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Rajeev Bargoti
Dr. Rajeev Bargoti did his post-graduation from the Garhwal University, Srinagar (Garhwal) and M. Phil. And Ph.D. from the Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Title of his Ph.D. Dissertation was “The Bayana Tract: An Archaeological Survey of Mughal Periodâ€. He has taught undergraduate classes in A.M.U., Alligarh and also worked as lecturer in the Banasthali Vidyapith, Banasthali (Rajasthan) for some time. He has also contributed course units for undergraduate students of the Kota Open University, Kota (Rajasthan). At present he is working as lecteurer in the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. He has contributed several research papers inNational and International Historical Congresses, in the Fields of urbanization, political and economic history, architecture and archaeology, which are appreciated by the scholars and published in the proceedings of the seminars. He was associated with (a) Prof. Iqtidar Alam Khan in his project ‘NISTAD’ funded by the CSIR and (b) Dr. J.M. Siddiqui in his project ‘Exploration and Excavation of Sikandra Township in Bayana’. He has contributed a chapter in Protected Monuments of Rajasthan, published by the Jawahar Kala Kendra in association with Publication Scheme, Jaipur Published in 2002.
