The Bhagavata Purana is a living embodiment of Lord Narayana and is believed to bestow moksha merely by being heard. It consumes the sins of a million lives, it ushers untold fortune, and it is said to be the rarest treasure on earth.

Maharishi Vyasa finds no peace even after composing the awe—inspiring Mahabharata. Narada Muni says to him, ‘You have described the human life, its strife and its ends, but you have not yet described the Lord himself. You must turn your great gift to that task; only then will you find peace.’

The second volume of the Bhagavata Purana deals almost entirely with the life of Krishna, the eighth avatara of Lord Vishnu—from an innocent toddler to a shrewd ruler and mediator, from his childhood days in Gokul to his defeating Kamsa, from his dalliances -with gopis to his marriages to Rukmini and others. To read this Purana is to be with Krishna.

Veda Vyasa composes the Bhagavata Purana. He teaches it to his illumined son Suka, who then narrates the ‘Secret Purana’ to King Parikshit on the banks of the Ganga.
