This book focuses on the struggles, pains and joys of the immigrants trying to realize their dreams in America, with special reference to the works of Bharati Mukherjee, a writer of the Indian diaspora who, after fifteen years in Canada, felt an expatriate and became an immigrant in America. One needs a theory to analyse and evaluate the corpus of Bharati Mukherjee’s fiction, since she declares herself an immigrant and writes about immigrants. This study is an exhaustive analysis of her novels form The Tiger’s Daughter (1972) to Desirable Daughters (2002), with a focus on her immigrant experiences. Since no full-length study of Bharati Mukherjee’s fiction has so far been made from this standpoint, it is hoped that the present book will be of great interest of the academic community in India and abroad.
