Because of man’s ever growing greed, many valuable species of plants and animals have silently disappeared before they could be identified. It is in this backdrop, this book explores the extent of biodiversity generously gifted by nature to Assam, a land with unique natural make up and diverse cultural identities. It presents not only the status, but also the strategies for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of bio-resources, besides detailing the threats and pressures and the policies and programmes adopted in this regard.
