Biotechnology in general emphasizes the technology based on biology by using the scientific knowledge and engineering principles for production of materials by biologic agents for animal health and productivity. The application of biotechnology to animals has a long history, since the domestication. Bioinformatics is a multi-disciplinary field with an appropriate convergence of computer science, information technology, biotechnology, biology, genetics, biochemistry, etc. encompassing analysis and interpretation of biological data derived from researches carried out in Animal Sciences. The present publication is meant for postgraduates of various animal sciences including genetics, biotechnology, nutrition, physiology, and reproduction etc. academia, teachers and professionals.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR M.M.S. Zama
Dr. M.M.S.Zama obtained his Ph.D degree in 1995 from IVRI Izatnagar. Dr. Zama joined as Head, Division of Surgery, Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar in May 2009 and as Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir university of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu in December 2014. He has published four books and about 120 papers in national and international journal. Dr. Zama has a teaching, research, extension and administrative experience of more than 30 years in the university and national Institute.

Dr. Raman Kant Taggar, Professor and Head, Division of Animal Genetics and Breeding, after completing B V Sc and A H., from Veterinary college Mathura, UP and an alumni of ICAR-NDRI, Karnal, served in the Sheep Husbandry Department Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir Goverment for fifteen years and joined SKUAST, J&K as Assistant professor and has been closely associated with Teaching and Research activities in Animal Genetics and Breeding and has published moe than fifty research papers in Journals of national and international repute and has also authored five manuals in Animal Genetic and Breeding. He also has handled two Net work projects on Characterization of Animal genetic Resources of Jammu and Kashmir as Principal Investigator.
