The book Biotechnology in Environmental Management is comprised of 17 selected articles giving in-depth knowledge of various aspects of the subject. Many articles are of review nature covering the application of biotechnological approaches in environmental management such as composting, bioremediation, single cell protein and biogas production from diverse industrial wastes. A separate review article on lignin biodegradation for clean technology in paper industry has also been included in the book. The book also incorporates topics on biotechnological options for environmental management in leather industry, and microbial bioconversion of whey in dairy industry to produce a variety of useful products. A few chapters specifically deal with biopesticides has also given in the book. Topics on vermicomposting, porbiotics in aquaculture, and use of biomass in removal of certain heavy metals from the aqueous media have also been given a place in the book. The book shall be of immense use to researches, teachers, scientists and consultants working in the field of biotechnology in environment and use of biopesticides.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR G.R. Pathade
Dr. G.R. Pathade (b. 18-12-1958) is Reader in P.G. Department of Microbiology in Y.C. College of Science, Karad. He obtained his M.Sc. in Microbiology in 1981 and Ph.D. in 1995 from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He is currently teaching microbiology at M.Sc. and guiding several students for Ph.D. He has published over 35 research papers in reputed Journals and edited three books. He is also working on editorial board of some Jornals and is a memebr of Prestigious national and international academic societies.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR P.K. Goel
Dr. P.K. Goel (b. 22-8-55) is Reader in the Department of Pollution Studies, Y.C.College of Science, Karad under Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He did his M.Sc. in Botany with specialization in Ecology in 1976 and Ph.D. in 1980from University of Rajasthan. He taught the subject of pollution at B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels under the course of “Pollution Studies†and guided several students for research. Dr. Goel has published over 45 research papers in national and international journals and authored / edited five books covering topics like air pollution, water pollution and methods in ecology, environment and water pollution researches. He is editor of a reputed quarterly journal, Journal of Environment and Pollution. He has been Organizing Secretary for several conferences and training courses and is a member of several prestigious academic bodies.
