This Purana contains four sections called Khandas consisting of 276 chapters. They are Brahma (30 Chs), Prakriti (67 Chs), Ganapati (46 Chs) and Srikrsna-janma (133 Chs). These four we have arranged in 2 parts. Part I contains three sections: Brahma, Prakrti, Ganesa. Section on Brahma deals with the creation of the universe by Brahma who is none other than lord Krsna himself. Section on Prakrti identifies her with Durga, Radha, Laksmi, Sarasvati and Savitri, narrates many stories about these deities and prescribes ritual for their worship. Prakrti in this section is described as the intelligent goddess of creation, unlike the Prakrti of the Samkhyas. Section on Ganesa treats him as the manifestation of Krsna and recounts many stories about him. Part II contains 133 chapters and is very voluminous. It gives an account of Krsna’s birth and his exploits. It contains some legends not found elsewhere. It describes the cause of Krsna’s incarnation as his love for Radha. The two parts are bound in separate volumes.
