Brahmins are considered as a caste of highest order in accordance to Hindu Chaturbarna system. Though it is normally believed that the Brahmin is a single community, it is not actually so. Besides geographical and linguistic divisions this community is divided and sub-divided into a number of fractions. This aspect is discussed in the book besides mythological stories connected with the origin of this supreme caste. Though considered as supreme caste, the women of this group suffers the most particularly after implementation of Manu Smriti. ABOUT THE AUTHOR G K Ghosh
He is graduated in Chemical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Rourkella. After graduation served number of organizations like Hindustan Lever Ltd., I.B.P Co. Ltd., Konark Detergents and Soaps Ltd., and finally joined Khadi & Village Industries Commission as director in the year 1982 retiring as Joint Chief Executive Officer in the year 2008. after retirement he was made member and chairman respectively of two important committees of Ministry of Science & Technology. He is also working with two rural based groups to develop environment friendly rural industrialization. He has presented more than 40 papers in Anthropology in various sessions of Indian Science Congress. More than 80 articles in various subjects written in English, Hindi, Bengali and Oriya were published in various journals and news papers of repute. He had authored more than 50 books out of which 48 were published. The subjects ranged from disaster Management, Anthropology, Environmental Issues, Renewable Energy, Ayurveda etc. he is well traveled all Indian States and most of the European countries. He was trained in Industtrial Cluster from International labor Organisation Training center at Turin, Italy.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Shukla Ghosh
Shukla Ghosh, a graduate from University of Calcutta and graduated in light classical music from Prayag Sangeet Samaj, Allahabad. Her papers were accepted in section of Anthropology and Archeology in annual sessions of Indian Science Congress Association. At least two of her papers were on traditional textile of India. She has intimate knowledge on various aspects of Indian textile like embroidery, cross stitch, batik and so on. Served Yuba Bani Section of All India Radio for a short span and was connected with various cultural organizations.
