Chapter two: Provides a socio-historical perspective and relevance of women policing in both settings. Chapter Three: Analyzing Facts, forms the core of Author’s research comprising of methodology construction and analysis. Chapter Four: Towards the Amelioration of Pitfalls is based on more groundwork analysis on present trends in violence, socio-psychological barriers faced by women police officers. In addition this chapter compares the status of female police officers with women doctors and lawyers. This chapter also discusses strategies directed discuses strategies directed towards establishing a stable future of women policing. Chapter Five: is the conclusion and final analysis of my work. The highlights incl-ude recommendations for media, government, educational and social agencies along with suggestions for future research. Chapter Six: The most recent addition to this research. It consists of major works of eminent women police officers including Dr. Kiran Bedi in India and Sheriff Laurie Smith in the United States. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Ranu Sinha

The Author of this book entitled, “Breaking Barriers” Dr. Ranu Sinha belongs to an upper middle class business family hailing from Jamshedpur, India. She has received all round education from sacred heart school, Jamshedpur and 10+2 from Loyola School, Jamshedpur. Her further studies include an Honors degree and bachelors in Sociology from lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi; masters and M.Phil degree in Sociology from the most prestigious university of India i.e., Jawaharlal Nehru university, new Delhi. Her most degree is a doctorate degree also from Jawaharlal Nehru university, New Delhi. The Author has relocated to united States and is presently an adjunct faculty at Merritt College, Oakland California and Vista College, Berkeley. She has also been a faculty at Santa Clara University and de Anza College Women Studies Program in United States. During the last three years of her teaching and mentoring in US, she has been acknowledged as versatile and passionate about the subject. She has been awarded as one of the beast teachers in making a positive difference in the lives of students at Merritt College, California, in May 2005. The Author is also involved with numerous activities at the American Sociological Association. This book is her commitment towards the empowerment issues of women across different boundaries.
