Christian Identity between Secularity and Plurality deals with the challenges presented to Christian identity by major developments in the critical consciosness of contempoary believers. The first half of the book proposes that from the fact of our belonging naturally in the world, there must be an irreducibly secular dimension of being human. The question is whether this this must be understood according to the claims of modern secularism or intead by drawing on Biblical and theological resources. It is argued that the letter contains important resources for recognizing and engaging the former. The second part of the book explores the nature of religious plurality and its implications for the self-consciousness of Christian faith. Arguing that it is neither possible nor necessary to determine the salvific nature of other religiond, the authors propose a "soteriological agnosticim" that safeguards the missionary mandate of the Church while holding open the possibility of constructive dialogue with other relogions. The book also offere a typology of multiple religious belonging and discusses the experience of Abhishiktananda, who for many years struggled with an attempt at being fully Hindu. In its totality, the book calls for open and respectful dialogue with other forms of thinking. and envisiuns a Christian discourse that will be enriched by such efforts.
