Colon classification is an outstanding contribution of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan. This scheme is being used in large number of Indian libraries for classifying their documents and has been included in all levels of library and information science courses conducted by Indian universities and other institutions. Colon classification is one of the most scientific and logical schemes based on principles and postulates. However, at times, the rules, principles and postulates are considered to be complex in nature. This book is an attempt to explain the provision in simple language and lucid style. It is hoped that the book will be helpful in understanding practical steps involved in classifying documents using colon classification.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Pandey S.K. Sharma
Dr. Pandey S.K. Sharma is one of the widely admired author in the field of library and Information Science. His books receive warm welcome and are read with deep interest owing to their simple language and lucid presentation. He has authored over a dozen of books in English language and about half a dozen of books in Hindi language including a couple of dozen papers. Dr. Pandey Sharma has the rare distinction of possessing two Ph.D. degrees, including one in Library Science (on D.D.C.) He has served various institutions in varying capacities, such as R.R.L.F. (Field Officer), Agra University (Reader and H.O.D., Library Science), Planning Commission (Chief Librarian-cum-Documentation Officer) and IIPA (Librarian in University Professor's Scale). Presently Dr. Pandey Sharma is working with University Grants Commission, New Delhi as Senior Library and Information Officer and is associated with various All India level commities on Library and Information Science.
