Jagadis Chandra Bose was per excellence the path-finder of independent pursuit of science and technology which could put India on the map of modern societies, even in the teeth of colonial oppression. The present work is the first attempt to make an intensive probe into the intellectual make up of an Indian scientist devoted to blending his scientific pursuits with an anti colonial consciousness. The author has also tried to examine the dialectics between a colonial set up posing a wide array of constraints against intellectual regeneration of the colonial people and an exceptionally gifted indigenous scientist struggling all the way through to bring science to the service of a nationalist cause. The concept of nationalism thus assumes a new dimension in the present analysis.
