Combating Terrorism: The Indian Experience

For the past over two decades, India has faced serious international security problems and suffered colossal human and economic losses at the hands of terrorist groups which are abetted and supported by adversary external agencies. It would be clear, viewed from any angle, that India has to take its own decisions and wage its own war against the onslaught of terrorism. In this perspective several eminent experts who have played an important role in combating terrorism have presented their views for initiating a meaningful debate on various issues relating to national security management. This book is an attempt to raise many questions related to use of violence as a social or political tool and also to find answers to as many of these questions as possible. Devastating acts, like the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre towers and the Pentagon in America; the attack on Indian Parliament or the Jammu and Kashmir assembly in the first year of the new millennium or on the Swaminarayan temple near Gandhinagar in the following year have left a large chunk of humanity concerned about the possibility of future incidents in their own backyards or doorsteps.
